A little help to ID some old motorsport photos

Hi All - Seasons Greetings  :)

I have been given access to some 50-odd 5x4 Glass Negatives and I need a little help in identifying what, where and when. Initially I think Silverstone, late fifties to early sixties...?

My next step is do full hi-res scans and get them burnt to CD and sent off to the curator of whichever track / manufacturer / club that we can identify and ultimately hand them over to their archives for safe and proper keeping.

Here is a small selection of low-res scans for IDing...

Andy,

I'm not sure about the mud-plugging photos, but all the others I'm pretty sure are Silverstone late 50s to early 60s.

I think 2 is at Woodcote, and 3-5 are at Copse corner. 6, 7, 8 and 10 ar the startline just after Woodcote.

The 750 Motor Club would almost certainly know about the race at picture 10 - there may be early Mallock U2 and/or Terrier 750/1172 Formula cars amongst others. Probably about 1959.  This is about the time my father starting racing in these formulae and I recall spending many a weekend in the sixties and early seventies at various race meetings across the UK - exciting times for a young kid.

My first thoughts on one and nine were Brands Hatch? but that would make it pre-1950 in it's grass track days.  If I could identify the cars that would help

Six, Seven, Eight and Ten are definately Silverstone.

It's a bit flat for Brands I think. Bear in mind that the only levelish bits are from Clearways to the start of Paddock. I have a clear memory of Brands as a grass track venue - the Gents was a khaki screen on poles poked into the ground. Ladies? Don't expect so...

2 is behind the pits, entrance to the paddock. 3 4 5 could be anywhere on the cct.  6 7 8 10 definitely at Woodcote start line, Silverstone , I should know as I was living there then.

The guys on TNF will have that lot sorted in about 10 minutes, you'll get the lot, time, date, drivers names, cars, chassis numbers, what colour underpants the mechanics were wearing, how many rivets are holding the cars together.........

Seriously though, there are some very knowledgeable folks on there, their powers of recall are brilliant, they never cease to amaze me with some of the answers to obscure (to me) questions. :t-up:

A bit of digging (as it looked familiar) the Ford Galaxie in Pic8 is that of Jack Sears who campaigned BML 9A in the 1963 and 1964 British Touring Car Championship. It's quite a famous car and is still about today.

A bit more history of it here

The Mk1 Jag (BUY 1) next to the Galaxie is also very well known from that era and I believe it presently resides at JD's.
