Tommygun
Wonder if anyone can help Had an accord estate for a few years, rear brakes have intermittently been sticky, but nothing that copper grease and swearing couldn't sort. Now they are both pretty much welded on, so far: New calipers Pistons Brake lines No bad brakes on the front and the system works in tandem so I'm now really confused, Could it be the master cylinder/ slave? Getting close to spending more than the cars worth and that's a shame as the rest of the car is immaculate and mechanically sound Any ideas would be most welcome Cheers Tommy
Andrew
Could you crack open a bleed nipple and see if the pistons push back? .. would tell you if its line pressure holding them or seized pistons?
JulianE
Have you already replaced those parts ? and do you mean you now have a problem with the front , if yes is that a poor pedal ? Some master cylinders also have bleed valves on them too if you have had a lot of fluid out of the system .
Steven Thorne
Does it have a load proportioning valve? Had a van with a sticky one once and gave similar symptoms.
Tommygun
I'll check on the bleed nipple, since I have had all lines and cylinders and everything on the back replaced there is now air in the system as the brakes are spongy and firm up after pumping the pedal, which is wrong. I'll find out about the load proportioning valve too Cheers
corsechris
A common fault on Alfa rear brakes is sticky handbrake cables. might be worth a check. Many moons ago I had a problem with the brakes on my 124 Sport. Never understood the origin of the fault, but the cause was the servo not letting the master return fully. After much messing, finally cured by adjusting the pushrod. A quick test would be to loosen the bolts holding the master to the servo.
