Log Books - Road Going Cars

Good morning all

I am finally almost ready to go (a bit later than planned) and my first even this year will be Blyton. Really looking forward to getting back in the seat.

So my quick question and I know this has been discussed before is regarding log books.

I am in speed series class E and so will be running 1C tyres (ZZRs) so as I understand it at most events will be entering Mod Prod Classes. The Car is still road legal Taxed, MOT'd, Insured etc.

I seem to remember a few of you guys say you got Log Books but if your car is still road legal you don't actually need one. Is that correct.

Or am I better just getting one to avoid an issues.

Cheers

Ian

I think you just need to make sure you take your mot cert. and evidence that the car is currently taxed. However, I may be out of date because of the latest tyre rule changes.

Hi Ian,

You will need to run in mod prod which brings a few other requirements. The first is that you need a HANS device and helmet to match if your current one doesn't have HANS posts. Technically you don't need a log book but its easier to get one as it saves a load of hassle with scrutineers. There's a form on the MSA website to complete which needs 3 photos (it shows examples on there. Download a copy and find a local scrutineer from the blue book or make prior arrangements with one at an event that you want to do for them to finalise the form and inspect the car. You pay them the money and they send it all of for you and a few weeks later it arrives in the post.

I would also suggest getting a copy of the ROPS certificate from the MSA for your cage. There is a MSA number on the silver sticker on your cage which they need to send you the correct certificate.

You do not need a logbook just the usual MOT,Insurance, tax etc. On the day you would need to run in mod prods and not in a road going class which only use list 1A or 1B tyres. The other complication is that usually drivers in mod prods need Hans devices ( but I am not sure how much the scrutineers are enforcing that) which most of us have now anyway.

Thanks Both for your quick responses.

All sorted with a HANS and Helmet, Just sorting the seatbelts out now as I am gong from 4 to 6 point. (couldn't really see how the HANS would work on just 4 point)

Good point about the ROPS certificate from the MSA. Hadn't thought of that. It does have the silver sticker on the cage though so shouldn't be a problem.

Assume I would just call or mail the MSA for that.

Think I will get a log book sorted out but good to know I don't strictly need one so have a little time, Will see if there is a scrutineer at Blyton that can sort one out for me.

Cheers
