Westfield GT/ Flymo at Silverstone

TVRJAS

Recommended Posts

Hello

just to introduce myself. I own the Westfield GT which I bought from Kurt Ramsden ( I think it had a club nick name of FLYMO).Kurt had lots of success hill climbing the car.

I have been using the car for circuit racing in the BARC CNC heads and the TVR European Challenge.

Yes I know its not a TVR but I used to race with them so they let me enter as a guest.

I have had success on the track but decided to put the car back to its original GT spec.

On this point I am looking for some body parts. I need side pods which I am having a problem sourcing. Westfield no longer have the moulds for the side pods.

If anyone has any pods, no matter how tatty they are, I would be very happy to buy them. Please let me know.

I have been trying to arrange entry into  the Silverstone Classic (90s GT) but am having some internal politic resistance.  This also happened when it raced in the 1996  British GT Championship when the car was so quick it embarassed some of the very expensive competition.

Its best result was an overall 3rd at Snetterton and finished doing the last race of the season.

Would you like to see the car on the track with the Mclarens,Jaguars,Porsches etc.?

I think it would be a great day for the marque.

Please let me know what you think

What an interesting project. Certainly would like to see it back on track again, in that form!

Good luck with the hunt for side pods. My understanding was that they were for narrow cars so even new would need modifying to fit the flymo

Would be great to see the car race. Have you tried contacting Mr Dawson who built the car?

Wondering why you want to put sidepods on it. Don't remember the car ever running with them, Even when Uncle Tom had it.

As Paul says they will be difficult to find, maybe Scotland is worth asking the question as some of the sprint cars up there run them.

Would be great to see the flymo out again. I was lucky to double drive it for a weekend with Kurt at TyCroes. Awesome car to drive. I never remember it with side pods either though. I take it you have photos of it with them on, could be worth posting a couple up.

Used to have some great battles with the Flymo whilst Tommo was pedalling it at a great rate of knots. Always sounded awesome

Thanks for all the replies.

Just to answer your comments.

Yes it did have sidepods originally. I will post some pictures when I work out how to do it.

How do I contact our Scottish friends re. side pods?

Me and Andy Dawson are working on the car so have all the original patterns etc.

I am sure we could run without pods but really want it back to original for Silverstone.

If you would like to see some on track action please follow the links.

Had to start at back of grid 34th.It was good fun.

I have some more if you are interested.

Would be interested in who is going to the Silverstone Classic in July
