Please find below the Target Times being used for each class in the 2016 Speed Series. We still need to add the J classes, but have concentrated on the Westfield classes first.

Good work.

I am quite surprised at the margin between some of the A2 and C times  though - mainly for tyres?

e.g. at Anglessey 97.97 vs 92.32

I would be interested in the metric applied

Let's just say it's an impossible job to get these 100% right. It's based on existing records and then factors applied to gives times where none exist ie all the new A & B classes. The SSOT discusses the options and then agrees the basis to use. We then go forward based on that decision.

People may look at times and say in their "opinion" we have the "wrong" time at a certain venue/class, but someone has to make a decision at the end of the day. The SSOT have been the loop argued it out and we are here. It's a tough job and as I said at the beginning you can never get it 100 % right. For that reason we don't divulge the "metric" used.

Hope the explanation helps.

Thanks Nick, I understand a lot of hard work and effort goes into this and it's very much appreciated!

If a novice enters a class other than A1 or B1, for example, C or D, do they have a separate target time or do the expert times in that class apply to everyone, novice and experts alike?

Cheers

Barny

The engineer in me was just interested in the metric .. whether scientific, empirical or simply intuitive .. but on reflection, understand your reasons for not wanting to share.

As my maths teacher would say ... " the working is as important as the answer"

I don't have any hard data to contribute.  I only know how my MIRA times in my S2000 on 3000 mile medium R888s compared to my megabusa times on 3 year old V70s. Based on that if I was asked to bet I would have had less spread.  But maybe that says more about my driving than the tyres :p

I am in class F and only do WSCC so will be on 1C this year so I can compare my times to last year but I saw it as quite an interesting challenge and was intellectually interested to learn how the SSOT had solved the problem.

I know it has added lots of work to what is already a challenging role so please don't interpret my comment as criticism and I am very grateful for the work that you and the whole SSOT put into making the championship happen.

I am really looking forward to seeing how times pan out this year.  I think it will make the outcome of the championship very hard to predict.

David,

Don;t worry I didn't take it as criticism, but I did want to explain why we are not going to divulge the exact figures used. It would be all to easy to end up with a "discussion / arguement" with people about had we used the right one.

It is difficult and the one part of the job that I hate having. Hence our comments last year about considering other scoring systems for 2017.

Barney,

We are running the Novices totally seperateley this year, but are just catching up with Tigger as to how to best get a system to do that. But yes the intention is to give the Novices an offset time in the other classes. Will announce that as soon as we have got it sorted.

My point was aimed at XTRTurbo ref the difference between A and C. A was for novices so quite a difference should be sort of expected.

David reference was A2, which is Experts (if I've understood regs correctly!)

yes that is how I interpreted it.  So John if you stay on 1Cs in class C your target will be 92.32 (your own record)  if you switch to 1b tyres your target will be 97.97.

It will be interesting to see where times settle with the people switching to 1B .   We will know soon enough.
