WSCC / Northampton Motorsport Speed Series 2016 Regs

Nick Algar - Competition Secretary

Please find below the First Draft of the 2016 regs, DO NOT ENTER BASED ON THESE AS WE EXPECT SOME CHANGES.

Notes to 2016 Speed Series Regs:-

Firstly the Regs are very much a work in progress, there are no Fixtures in there yet, but will be soon. The wording we use is a mixture of what we are required to provide by the MSA as well as our input to provide the rules for competitors run to.

So what have we done:-

Classes A & B are the same as before, but you can only run 1B tyres and will be able to run in true Road Going classes on the day at events. Sub section 1 is for Novice, sub section 2 for Experts. We will make a small allowance to the Target Times for the use of 1B tyres. Similarly there will be an allowance for Novices.

Classes C&D, E&F are essentially the same as 2015 and most importantly will be able to run tyres from list 1C. A big request from a lot of competitors. However to do so you will on the day have to enter the Modified Specialist Production Classes if you run 1C tyres. You can also still enter these classes running 1B tyres and running on the day in the Road Going Classes. It’s up to you which tyre choice you make, but our Target times will be based on 1C tyres. However in C&D please note the new regulation which does not allow modified Crank Strokes. If you run 1C tyres then whilst the car remains in road going condition you will not need Tax, MOT & Insurance, instead it will require and MSA Competition Log book approximately £ 32 from an MSA Scrutineer. This reduces the costs a bit and helps pay for a HANS.

Classes G&H are unchanged.

We have also changed the maximum score from 102 to 101 to keep the competition tighter.

We have tightened up the engines used in classes to try and ensure limited power in the lower classes when Turbo & Spercharged engines as used.

Engines fitted with Turbochargers or Superchargers must use the unit supplied with the standard manufacturer’s engine.

The engine fitted to my car was never produced with a turbo fitted to it. I have fitted an impreza turbo.  Does that mean my car is not eligible to enter into either class B or D?

You can go in F which is still Roadgoing if you run 1B tyres

Thanks for the clarification terry. :)

I'l have to reconsider entering then, as a novice with a car that is not a dedicated track car, i don't feel i would be competing on a level playing field with other cars/drivers entered into that class.

Mike

As a novice, you will be competing with other novices regardless of class entered, thats one of the big changes for this year, we will have novice target times for all classes.

If you do enter it is possible that you'll be the only Novice in your class ( as your car is quite special ) but with our new target times you will be competing on a level playing field with other novices so no need to reconsider.

Cheers SSOT, looks good! Clearly some thinking to be done for us all but certainly looks like you've made the best of a tough situation.

Yes, Novices can run in any class and will have an easier target time than the experts in the same class

 Looks like I wont be entering next year for the first time in 16 years.

Unless some one wants to buy an un-run 1700 Rover K-Series.

Disapointed but know why the crank rule has been brough in. Just wish there could be a better way.

Only way forward for me is to go 1800 with a standard crank with wich will probably give me marginaly more power but less reliability! Just not sure I want to start ripping an engine apart thats never run and taken me 2 years to put together.

Good work on the rest of the regs especily on the dificult tyre situation.

Its been a dificult year for the SSOT and you have done a great job under the curcomstances. I accept that you cant please everyone all the time and this year it my turn.

Just need to consider my options.

Ian---It would be good to see you out this in 2016 and you could still run in class E

Some good initiatives in there under difficult circumstances. Well done SSOT

With regards to the crank ruling, whilst I understand it, I would have thought it more sensible to not allow decreasing capacity (shorter stroke) rather than increasing capacity? Not that it affects me but I see Ian D is affected which seems a shame.
