Boxster s or normal?

Morning folks..

Was hoping for some of your wisdom on the Boxster which I'm considering for a daily - I'm sure plenty of people here have owned.  Naturally my mind goes straight to the 987 3.4 boxster S but then I wonder whether I should consider the 2.9 which would allow me to purchase something a bit newer for my budget. Not sure if I would be disappointed with it after a while though?

I'm after a soft top, that sounds nice, has performance (but doesn't necessarily need to be immense), can strap a child seat into the front passenger seat (and turn off airbags - can they do this?).. and maybe (lol) squeeze a golf bag in.  I know the latter is off the cards :)

My budget seems to get me in the zone of my08/09 Boxter S or my10/11 2.9 - in case that's useful info regarding potential mechanical niggles.  (Don't really want an slk or z4)

Thought's appreciated

get the best and fastest you can afford. prob worth joining their owners club and getting up to speed on issues with the engines etc and possibly finding a well loved owners car

Fwiw my wife had a Cayman and I thought that a really lovely car, certainly nippy enough for the road - but always had the niggle that bit more power would have been nice/suited the chassis. The S engines probably give this.

I have just bought a Boxster s 3.2 and really like it very much, lovely car to drive and got enough poke in it to make you smile don't play golf so can't help with that question I'm afraid.

The 3.2 S I had was a great drive. Golf clubs won't fit!

The larger the engine the greater the risk of bore score. The 911 (997) gen 2 seemed to solve this but not sure if that applies to Boxsters and Cayman nor which year the switch took place. A friend just had his low mileage Cayman S 3.4 engine replaced but was lucky and Porsche paid. I'm having a rebuild of my 996's 3.6 to solve all the issues (apparent and potential) and the cost isn't pretty.

Porsche repairs are always very very expensive

Thanks guys.. Found out quite a bit over on boxa.net.. Think a pre-purchase inspection from a specialist might be in order

Seems you can get your golf clubs in a boxster too which is a turn up for the books!

If you go that route check explicitly that they will check for bore scoring. Some very well know experts don't. I've no idea why though.
