Car Radio Help

Cleggy the Spyder Man

Recommended Posts

Just fitted a pioneer DEH-4500BT bluetooth radio/cd unit which was given to me...

I have two issues - the first being that it wont hold radio stations in memory after being turned off for a short while - a quick google reveals that the red wire needs to be on the ignition and the yellow wire needs to be permanently live - i will get the unit out and check this out so probably an easy fix

the second issue is that I have succesfully paired the device to my phone (Iphone 5c) but when trying to make a call I get no sound - it appears to make the call succesfully but there is no sound through the car speakers

any bright ideas on this one?

It would appear my phone is compatible and I have tried it via bluetooth and also with the iphone cable attached to the usb slot on the front of the unit

I am able to play music from the phone through the speakers succesfully

I've had both these problems before.

The first sounds like it needs a permanent live power feed, which using an ISO cable (I think) should sort. There will probably be one with the unit? In my case it didn't work and I'm getting a permanent live fitted.

The second for me was that the default setting for the stereo was to only use the front speakers for phone calls, while the speaker wiring was all into the rear speakers. Changing the settings to use all speakers sorted it. Presumably the theory is that passengers don't need to hear phone calls?

Of course, in my case I had to reset everything every time I turned the ignition off due to problem 1

Should point out that mine was a kenwood.

mmm that is a good thought on front and rear speakers - the tvr only has rear speakers - I wonder if it is using the connectors for the rears hence the problem?

I dont remember seeing a setting to change the speaker output on the head unit though

off to investigate

When you are in phone mode (on the kenwood) there is a whole settings menu.

no such option on my unit :(

so option are to change wires over on back of the unit (I have tested on the fader and it is using rear speakers)

I think you may have answered my issue though chap (as when I called my wife she could hear me but no sound through my speakers)  - so thank you :t-up:

the 1st problem is down to your permanant and switched live usually yellow wire and a red wire think red may be perm and yellow switched but i may be wrong and on some iso connectors i have known them to have to be plugged in opposites like red to yellow and visa versa

Yeah, although the iso standard is fairly clear, some manufactures have the pins transposed, hence most link-leads allow you to swap them over.

Did you get sorted Cleggy?

done it this morning m8 - you and bunje were totally spot on

swapped the red and yellow power cables around and that sorted out the memory issues

swapped the front output to the rear speakers and that sorted the telephone calls issue

The WSCC massive does it again :t-up:

I think we should charge for this free service ;)
