Cheshire to North Wales run, Evo Triangle, Ponderosa Cafe etc. This Saturday!

Short notice, i know, but as the weather's not looking too bad at the moment, I thought I might take a jaunt out to some of the old familiar N. Wales favourites. It must be nearly two years since I last went now, with the new build and so on!

If anyone fancies joining me, I initially plan to set off from Congleton around 9.00/9.30 am, this Saturday the 30th, but could easily jiggle that around to meet up either at this end, or along the route.

OK,

My first stop off will be at the Shell garage on the A34/A500 junction, near Talke. Hope to be there around 9.20 - 9.30 am - a good point for Stu to meet up?

Second stop will be Whitchurch, McDonalds car park, on the A41, just before the junction (roundabout), with the  A525. Should be there around 10.15 - 10.30 am.

From there, it's about half an hour to Llangollen.

Next stop is the Ponderossa Cafe, probably around 11.30 am we'll have a stop there for a brew/late breakfast/early lunch before heading off round to the Triangle.

After the Triangle, we'll head up to Betws-y-Coed, (Shell Garage) to fill up. We can also take a break here if everyone wants.

Very roughly we're about 200 miles, and ignoring stoppage times, 5 1/2 hours, so reckon on heading back late afternoon.

(The return route will be more or less the same, once we get as far back as the Wrexham Road A483)

Good call Dave, I can't do it as I am in Wales with Jo and kids, but enjoy the run, some fab roads!

On our family trip to New Quay Wales, must have seen at least 2 speed traps, so be aware!

I live near to the Ponderosa and might be free to join you for my first ever trip out!  What would be your ETA at the Ponderosa?  Is this somewhere near your starting point?

I can also confirm with Greenstreak, last Saturday alone I counted 5 mobile speed traps in two hours in and around the area and they were often discreetly positioned (more than usual)

HI Dave,

We are interested in joining you, which direction will you be heading to the Ponderosa? We would probably approach via Whitchurch.

No, I'm coming from South Cheshire, so depending on the direction chosen, it's sort of near the middle!

OK, just been throwing some details into Tyre, and reversed my (old) normal run a bit; I could go out via Whitchurch, getting there say about ten am, or just after. From there, running across the A525 towards Bangor on Dee, and then towards Llangollen.

That would put a rough ETA at the Ponderosa Cafe of 11.00 am +/- 15 mins or so.

From there it's a big loop round to the Triangle, followed by a fuel stop in Betws-y-Coed. After that, back along the A5 towards home...

The Evo triangle is one of my favourite runs, I did it about half a dozen times late last summer.  We're away (in Cumbria) this weekend or else I'd have loved to join in, especially as I live in Whitchurch so probably on your route. Its a nice run up through Llangollen from whitchurch too.  My only concern for you is that it's probably "well monitored" on a weekend, which Is why I normally head up that way mid-week.  Anyway, have a great run out: the forecast looks good for Saturday.

Let me know where near congleton you want to meet.

Hmm, I wonder if Ian wants to come.

By the end of this the car will have clocked up 1000 miles :)

Ok, in that case, I'll head down the A34 then along the A525 through Keele, Madeley Heath and on to Whitchurch.

Wherever's convenient along that A34 run, I would suggest.

Ah, just seen this. I'd re-routed further South towards S-O-T for Ian. Not sure if it still helps you or not!

I'll meet up anywhere that suits,

If you normally come down the A34 and onto the 500 (where we left you on the Demon tweeks run) I can meet anywhere around there.
