I saw one in the week as well in the flesh on the road for the first time and have to agree!

I mean no offence, but to me it's still just a way to publicly splash the cash and rub peoples noses in it, whilst having the "environmentally friendly" moral high ground (hybrid) as an excuse to justify it.

no offence taken it’s not my car , but there are many factors that actually make this car make sense to the owner  tax and the ability to purchase through his company is just one, compared with paying yourself a Larger dividend and giving a lot it to the tax man,  his last company car was a golf tdi and in many cases his staff had far better cars than the golf, a lot of the decision  to take such a large leap forward motoring wise is due to the possibility of losing his driving licence in the future for  health issues outside of his control . some might say having a westfield is flash , and if I had a 100k to spend would I buy a I8 mmm probably not but I might have a nice collection of British classics and a bigger garage faster westfeild ect ect , but unless I re-mortgage and live on value food for the next five years risking everything to start my own business then its not likely to happen  ,That is presuming I actually had the business idea in the first place and the “ stones” to take the leap

Disagree.  If you can afford it and it floats your boat, go for it.  Just because someone can afford what someone else can't doesn't mean they are flash, nor does it mean they are rubbing peoples nose in it.

Its the sort of statement that suggests, if I can't have why should they.

Live and let live ;)

I dunno, for me it's the irony of the thing, marketing itself as environmentally friendly and fuel efficient...... I mean seriously, lets face it, if you can afford to buy one, you wouldn't care if it did 10mpg or 100mpg. Which then begs the question as to why that car, why not something else and then it all just comes down to the badge.

It's like these folk who occasionally give money to charity in order to give them a soap box to stand on should anyone ever question their extravagant and wasteful lifestyle.

It's like rich kids who go to 3rd world countries to "help" lions with broken legs, or rather to pose for seflies in their designer clothes, with their £500 iPhones in front of people who probably live on less than 5 pence a week. But it's ok, because they're not attention seeking, they're not being wasteful and they're not just trying to avoid getting a bl**dy job, no not at all.........

To me things like this epitomise what's wrong with our little corner of the world.

I know how this translates in many peoples minds, but I could honestly say if I landed a massive lottery win tomorrow, then in 6 months time i'd still be driving the same 12 year old daily motor. Local charities where the directors and management didn't furnish themselves with fancy motors, would be getting sizeable anonymous donations.

I just don't want to spend my life chasing other peoples dreams, or for that matter stepping on them in order to massage my own ego.

"Most people are other people, their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation"

It's half the reason I have a Westfield, it's big middle finger to social conformity and I like that. I suspect deep down many others feel the same way, feeling that explosive force deep inside that just wants to break out of and burn that pre-labelled box they've been stuck in for most of their adult life.

I think I can see where some of your thought process comes from Lyonspride but don’t agree with all your thinking, and as you don’t know the owner, and what a journey he has been on and why he has bought a bmw and what sort of lifestyle he leads how he treats his staff ect ect all I can say is lets agree to differ in some of your opinions.

This thread was meant to be about a car and what a cracking drive I thought it was, posted by me as I had had just been given a drive of something I could only rent for a day and be unlikely to own unless I win the lottery .It was not designed to be a debate on the social responsibility of having a 100k car and if it’s right or wrong,

There’s lots of validity in what you’re saying but on equal measure unless we discuss the evils of a very unbalanced world that’s based on capitalism or terror and the alternatives were probably going to go in circles.

Like it or not one day we all will be driving round in glorified milk floats and if it helps save the planet then that’s fine by me,

To quote a little more Oscar wilde

"Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination."
