dombanks
Does anyone know (apart from ford) where to get new ford keys from i have some recollection about you being able to program them via the ignition.... swmbo's little KA only had one key so wouldnt mind getting a spare. the buttons on the fob feel a bit naff and not so positive when pressed so wouldnt mind getting a new one of those too but im guessing thats probably just a new case. Lyonspride
the buttons on the fob feel a bit naff and not so positive when pressed so wouldnt mind getting a new one of those too but im guessing thats probably just a new case. That'll be the micro-switches damaged from excessive force, for some reason as the batteries start to go, A LOT of people appear to think that pressing the buttons harder will squeeze a bit of extra life out of them. Many do it without even realising they're doing it! Something which in previous occupation went down on 8D reports as "customer abuse". I don't know the KA fob specifically, but I image it'll need a new case+PCB and then a key cut to fit into it.
bigals
Try timpson as you can probably get a clone of a non-central locking key made up quite cheaply or go the whole hog and get a remote key Worth a phone call, they can be really helpful If it was me I would just get a standard key made up as a spare as I have never had a key fail or have never lost one, but have always worried if I have not had a spare http://www.timpson.co.uk/services/66/car-keys
Jonk179
The buttons getting faulty is a common issue. Before getting a new fob open it up, remove the battery and gently bend the contacts up a little bit, refit the battery and try it again. You may be surprised to find it works. We run a fleet including 100+ fords and do this quite often. As said before the immobiliser chip req computer coding but many after market motor factor outlets or auto electricians can do this. SootySport
Some local locksmiths can do key programming these days, and Timpsons. Remote keys are expensive £120 plus wherever you go. I bought a manual key as a spare for my daughters Corsa from Timpsons, that's good enough for us.
dombanks
That's all ill probably do but I have had bad experience with not using the remote key to unlock with a Clio I once had. The lock just wasn't up being used with a key day in day out and eventually broke .. I think it was just frenchly mounted in the door.
