Outdoor cover - either preowned or advice on new

I'm looking for an outdoor cover for my Westy, SEi standard body.

There used to be a supplier who sold them for about £65 on eBay for ages but doesn't appear to be doing so anymore. I see the Hamilton cover gets good reviews here but it's out of my budget.

So if anyone has one for sale or can recommend one for about £60ish I'd be grateful.

Thanks

R

The Halfords small cover is around that price range and to be honest, it's not bad. You may end up getting another one in a year or two so worth considering the options as in buy cheap, buy twice...

My Hamilton cover is still going strong after 8 years - good investment IMO.  Used all winter.

I’d like one but at the moment cash-flow precludes it.

Have you used/seen one on a Westy?  It looks to be contoured to a modern car shape so I wonder how good a fit it would give.

I use them, had a couple so far so. If it looks like I'm not going out over winter and there is likely to be a lot of wind, rain and snow, I pop a cheap tarp over it. Otherwise it fits just fine. There's three straps and buckles, one right across the middle and two at either end that fit nicely by the wheels. It should last me another year by which time, as with yourself, I should have enough cash to get the Hamilton.

Thanks, Andy.

Looks like no-one’s got a used one for sale, so I’ll get one of them!

Do NOT buy one of the Halfords covers - I have bought three in three years - they are crap. The waterproofing membrane starts to crack and flake off, and you end up with either a wet interior or lots of small grey flakes inside the car.

Unless you cover the waterproof cover with a tarp (as Andy does), then you are wasting your money.

Cheers Ian

I've had both the tailored Hamilton and the halfords small car cover that Andy mentioned. I prefer the halfords cover because it actually fits a little better. Thought it was good value at £50.

The Hamilton will last longer although any cover that you use as permanent storage will deteriorate when it's thrown over a wet and dirty westfield!

Yep, thats the major downside for us non garage owners, you really want to avoid putting any kind of cover on a wet or filthy car.

I’d be returning the item for replacement if it only lasted a year, not paying for the same thing again.

Using a tarp as an addition for the lay-up over the winter months makes good sense.
