New westfield builder

Hey guys, long time reader, first time poster (because i need help. ;) )

Well our story is we are a college in St Albans who are building a Westfield SDV as a college project with the motor vehicle students.

Once built we will take the kids out hopefully around a track and then sell it and buy another for the new students.

Our experience so far has not really been good, mainly to do with Westfield. Parts on order, bodywork 7 months late nearly, bits missing, lack of communication with WF.

The manual is lacking some detail and has required some guess work as some of you guys have posted before, but we just wont to finish it and get it running now, hopefully it wont be too long before this happens.

I will post some pics later of where we are and how we are stuck if you guys would be nice enough to offer your views.

Thanks

Welcome.

Is it a mazda SDV or a Sierra one?

Either way there are plenty on here that will be keen and eager to help.

Hi and  :ww:

I hope you get all the parts you need very soon as I assume you want to finish for the end of term and that is approaching fast now!!!

I have done the same thing in a college before but chose to build an MK from a Sierra and finish on the track at Bruntingthorpe. It was one of the best things we ever did but the plan to sell and build again did not win support with the management so the car has been stripped, rebuilt and upgraded since.

I'm sure there will be plenty of advice about build difficulties from this forum but it may not help with supply issues from WSC

Plenty of tech help on this forum.   Funny you should say you're having problems with the parts from Westfield Cars, as we are too, however a recent meeting with some of our esteemed members and the Westfield management has just taken place,     read it yourself --- http://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic/110100-broken-promises/  .  Hope it helps in the future.

Thanks for the welcome, the kit we are building is the mazda. Luckily MartynV management have gave us their blessing and they are looking forward to showing it off in the end of term fayre, providing we can finish it of course. At the minute we are wrestling with the front wiring loom and just clipping all of the connection back in. But like I said we are held up by not having the parts.

Yes, we had the initial go ahead and we did all the showing off, visiting politicians and dignitaries and the like but somebody panicked when we were to sell as they could see a potential claim against the college if there was a subsequent problem with the vehicle. With such a risk averse culture it was a preferred option to cut it up for scrap or fix it to the side of the building as decoration!!!!  ???

Subsequent rebuilds seemed a more attractive option as there was no further funding for another kit. It was a shame as a limited production line of building and selling on would have been a massive benefit to the students but that was not always a priority  :p

Hope it all comes together for you and your students as I know how satisfying it is for all concerned

I look forward to seeing the build photos. I'm nearing the end of my Mazda build now.

You may find that if it were an electric or hybrid vehicle, then they'd have been completely up for it. Never underestimate the destructive power of political correctness.
