Man On The Clapham Omnibus
My 93 model year SEiW has a chassis number on a plate on the scuttle. It's not a VIN as such but a series of digits made up of kit year, model, and serial number in four digits. Up until now the VOSA/DVLA system has rejected the whole set of digits (ten of them in all) and accepted only the final four which are all numbers. Today, because I remembered to take the old certificate to show exactly what to put in, the damned computer would not accept what it had always accepted before. After a lot of fiddling around trying all combinations, the MoT tester tried a help section (I think) and typed in the registration mark (no good on its own), date of first registration (obtained bizarrely from Euro Car Parts website from the reg no), and engine size. Bingo! Up came a seeming jumbled set of numbers and letters made up using old ten digit Westfield number but made of scrabble tiles dropped on the floor until they made a silly sequence! I simply must take the old certificate next time to prove what happened. Another silly thing is that I went for the MoT a few weeks early because my car is SORNED and I have a track day on Friday and wanted to run it on the road legally to try it after winter storage so MoT was the best way to do it. Had I taken it a year less a day before it ran out (July) I would have thirteen months MoT left. But because it was earlier than that I have only the bare bones twelve months! wackydo
I have a zero missing in the middle of the chassis number on the VIN plate, it was only accepted because I had the V5 with me that showed the missing zero !!
Lyonspride
I had some issues last year, resulted in a letter from the DVLA as the V5 had the VIN from the donor vehicle, whilst the car has a Westfield VIN.
Man On The Clapham Omnibus
Like some unfortunate people, my car has such a mixed parentage that nobody knows the original donor(s)!
