Car history. 4.7 V8

I have looked into buying this car and done a bit of research on it. The car was raced by a chap called ian hepburn in the northern saloon series. There is some pictures of it on google without the hideous wrap on it. Its only got dyno proof of about 325bhp from when the engine was built in 2004 and it hasnt had that much use since by the sound of it. It sounds like a pretty decent car to be fair but i have decided to look for a high spec 2.0 4 pot car instead

I dont know the car but 325 from a 4.7 sounds reasonable esp given the throttle bodies (280-300 is more typical). If it really does product 420bhp I would question its streetability and check the cooling as it must have a very race orientated cam and wont be very usable for road driving I expect. It probably will rev very high for a Rover and with cams like this, they don't tend to last long.

I spoke to john eales about the engine and he confirmed he built in in 2004, he also said the best 4.7/4.8 engine he has ever done only made 380 and he's never seen 420 out of any naturally aspirated rover v8 whatever the size. The seller says that its had some additional mapping work done by the previous owner in denmark but he has no proof of this so i would take that with a pinch of salt personally. There is a video of him driving it on youtube, i personally didnt think it sounded all that fast for the power of it and not very revvy. Here is the video

Thanks for the info, I think you are just reinforcing what I already thought. Time to keep looking.

Yeah it doesn't 'look' / sound very quick - might be long gearing? The one I've been it in at similar power and weight felt pretty quick though. Rover V8s don't tend to rev very high (6k max maybe?), certainly not as high as a 4 pot to the same level of tune.
