I've worn out drills over the years with use, but never had one burn out in a cloud of smoke before! (A Makita at that)

 

Looks like it's the old DeWalt with the knackered batteries for the rest of the weekend.

maybe you can buy new brushes if it's that?

 

Thats my hope, will open it up later and have a look.

I need to check whether it's the motor itself that's burnt out, or just brushes etc. Makita's aren't usually too bad for spares availability, just depends on how big a part it is, as to whether it's worth repairing, I guess.

All of my favourite tools are Makita - I'm addicted to blue plastic I think ;-)

A lot of battery drills these days are going to brushless motors.

Last longer but nothing to repair if they go pop.

Brushes have disintegrated; looks like a replacement motor assy. needed.

Might not be too bad then.

Some drills can be bought 'Naked' IE without batteries. It doesn't always work out cheaper to repair.
