Can anybody that is just starting competing and has any questions please post here, to help get a quicker reply and also for us to use to update the Begineers guide.

ok so I got all the gear and no idea for myself thanks to the playschool boys at the Autosport show

but what physically need to be done to the car other than timing strut, tape on battery lead and marking ignition on/off

Was good to meet you again at Autosport, with our and your wee taking capabilities you'll have a great time, even before you get in the car!

 

In general terms not a lot is what needs doing to the car, take a look at the beginners guide for more info. I'd always advise to spend on your own safety before learning to become Jenson in your head. You have good kit, so car wise, decent compliant tyres, harnesses (although a standard seatbelt is compliant) and 5 or 6 point over 4 point. Check your brakes, wear will occur more quickly on track, so ensure plenty meat on pads.

A decent rollbar with support stays rather than the chocolate version occasionally supplied, again not mandatory, RAC type bar will suffice.

Check the car thoroughly, spanner check joints, steering UJ's etc, anchor points, high revs create vibration! A high revving 90hp crossflow vibrates as much as a 300hp plant.

 

Garry and the Derby Notts lads are well placed to give you further info, or I'm happy to help where I can.

 

The most important thing is you enjoy it (you will) be realistic about your first events, and only concentrate on bettering your previous time and leave the circuit with the wheels pointing the right way and an unremovable grin.

The beginners guide gives all that is required.  Key are 2 spring on carbs/tbs, clearly marked ignition, 1l catch tank, tow points marked on roll bar and being polite to the scrutineers.  

 

Even after many years of competing with your car passing scrutineering every time you will still come across a scrutineer with his own pet compliance topic.  

 

Roadgoing cars have to have front and back number plates, never been pulled up on size but have to be there. I was pulled up with tyres that slightly protruded from the front cycle wings. These types of problem normally come with a comment and advice but don't tend to stop you competing.  Also the camaraderie of the WSCC will have any issues sorted quickly in the paddock and successfully back through scrutineering.  

 

It can be a bit daunting the first time through scutineering and I would highly recommend getting one of the local WSCC area speed series guys (Garry or Del) to take a look at your car, their experience will soon identify any potential problems.

Silly question i'm sure but do I need to get tow eyes fitted? Recommended in S10.1.15.

You do not specifically need towing eyes fitted for sprints/hillclimbs but you do need to put yellow tape or "TOW" sticker somewhere on the car ( e.g. Cage or rollover bar) where you are happy for a recovery vehicle to attach a tow strap to pull forwards or backwards

I have a Playskool full rall cage - looks similar to yours.

I mark the front right top of my full cage as the place to tow from. It is a strong point, and it is in front of me, so shouldn't inhibit me in steering the vehicle, nor present a danger to me when steering the vehicle.

I have yellow tape on front top of cage at driver's side and on top of cage at rear
