Help please....... 3rd call to The Factory today to chase up an order from 4 weeks ago, and after some lengthy moments on hold it looks like they have forgotten to place my order, I need a pair of Cycle wings either Yellow Fibreglass or black carbon effect and a pair of brackets, I've got the westfield uprights.

I want the quality to be right so can anyone recommend a good supplier??

Thanks,

Hi Pete, I've not bent the ASBO, it's just that they look really sad and tired, they are stress cracked and there's quite a chunk missing from one of them (a sort of man sized stone chip)...... and one of my brackets looks a bit wrong..... previous owner denied any wrongdoing...... but being the brother in law he would wouldn't he !

Do Tiger stays work with Westfield cast uprights? (I know the Tiger stays use the dust shield mounting points on the original Cortina uprights, and I know the cast uprights have mounting points for the factory stays, just didn't know they were in the same position?)

There's usually someone advertising on ebay that offers a standard and lighter weight grp cycle wing. Unfortunately I can't find it just now - they may have been based in East Anglia? Maybe someone else has seen them?

As per Gadgetman, yes I think tiger ones will only fit standard cortina uprights - didnt realise v8's were weight watchers and use alloy as standard.

Paul - if your stuck i have found N Clarke Wealding and Fabricators in South Woodham Ferrers are always happy to make items from scratch in their lunch hour.

Paul at Mid Norfolk Mouldings for the cycle wings, I thoroughly recommend him! He's always got some on ebay, or just call him.

Quality wings are any wings that can stay on the car for a decent length of time.  They do suffer a lot of vibration and you can't avoid stone impacts.

From other members mounting methods I have seen

--- using plastic nuts and bolts relieves stress around the holes

--- fixing  strips of foam or neoprene in between the flat part of bracket legs and the arch reduces overall vibration.

--- undersealing the arches absorbs stone impact from underneath

--- adding a third leg to the bracket spreads strain on the bracket itself

The completely different idea of bonding wings to the stays is another way to fix arches but I not keen on that. They give no warning of breaking off, so one second they are there and the next, completely disappear.

Good shout Sootysport ! mine have hair line cracks from the mounting points, I put epoxy on the backs of the wings to hope to stop the hairline cracks spreading, I will try the foam strips between the mounting bracket & order some number plate mounting nuts & bolts

I have a completely different experience here. I bonded mine on with Sikaflex 221 and had absolutely no problems - including a major accident that substantially bent the stays on both sides. There was absolutely no problem with the bond. In fact, the wings had buckled and I had to use a length of fine wire to break the bond to get the wings off! I'm going to be replacing my cycle wings shortly and they'll be bonded again. IMO, no problem with bonding them on if you do it properly.

Are you thinking of the fifty quid ones from kit parts direct?

I have a pair and we very disappointed by the quality. Loads of scratches on the surface, the edges were sharp and had chips. I put a lot of work into getting them usable.
