i lost my headphones on the way back, recon i left them on the china southern flight .... so anyone recommend any?

much over 50-60 quid and it aint going to happen. i use them mainly in the westy with my iphone and the last two were some sony and some senheisser

the sort that has the big squidgy blob so it fits snug in the ear. i like both as it cut a bit of the noise but still let me hear sirens etc

the senheisser were fantastic at bass really deep but suffered the one thing that model is know for and it just going pop. the sony were good all round but could be a little tinny.

might be tempted to go a bit higher in price if i knew they were worth it. i aslo have some skull Kandy which had to get as last yrs holiday i left them at home. these stick out a bit too much so whistle as the wind goes past.

i mainly use these in the car so really they need to be car orientated.

sony mdr-v700 are the best phones ive ever bought

designed for DJs - they sound huge - you would probably pass out before you blew them and they fold up quite small for storage

i tried senns and lots of others and found them too delicate, great if you listen to classical but didnt know what to do with modern punchy music

beats are the only other ones that came close

i bought mine used - if you go that route make sure theyre genuine as they were so popular they started making fake ones

Just get some of the cheap Sennheiser/ Creative ones and don't buy the fakes. Very good bang for buck and they're almost disposable at that price if they get wet in the car. No point spending £50-60 on in ear headphones and using them in a noisy car buffeted with all that wind noise.

Please please please just don't buy the Beats ones, that really is marketing over sound quality, the fail on every comparison criteria apart from the quality of the packaging, too much low quality bass to make you think they sound nice. Shure, Klipsch and Audio Technica make some good sounding kit, if it's quality you want, everyone prefers a different sound and balance so you can't really judge over the net, take your music into a shop and test a few out side by side.

I've just replaced the Sennheiser's I use for running in with a pair of the CX 300 II - £21.99 on Amazon - I bought them there to avoid fakes.  My previous pair lasted 6 years of daily use and running cross country in all weather.

I was given a pair of Beats as a present a couple of years ago and have just got round to using them.   I actually like them and do think they sound better than the Sennheiser's.   They definitely have more bass.

Another vote for Creative - I bought a pair of these some years ago after reading good reviews, and was astounded just how good they were for such a cheap price. Still going strong, too.

Sennheiser have been making this model in various guises for a very long time so has stood the test of time.

They were originally over £40.

I listen to all genres of music (or cacophonies as Wendz puts it  ) I really believe these are the best value in ears for casual listening, excellent balance and detail with decent bass.

I have tried many brands and models over the years, and these have lasted longest with the abuse I give them. They must have tough wires for them to cope with being worn to help get to sleep (to block out external, especially when camping, noise and sooth a stressed active mind!). They have survived many times getting severely knotted or tangled up about my neck!

JVC HA-FR6

about a tenner from PC World and I have found them to be as comfortable as any others and decent enough sound quality.

Tried more expensive Sennheisers before and they tend to fail at the jack end within a few months of purchase.  I abuse headphones massively.

Can I add that these things never seem to fit my ears.  I found some odd Sony ones which are half in, half out and fit my ears.  So I bought 3 sets.  I think that was 6 years ago, and I haven't opened the second set yet

thanks guys, i have no idea about brands etc for this type of thing so its good to get some recommendations.

Honestly, forget all about brands and price ranges. Go listen to some in a Currys/ PC World/ John Lewis/ name your major megastore that have them all on display for a try before you buy.

Buy with your own ears, there is far too much branding and marketing bumph in the world of audio. Quite often, the pair you prefer the sound of will be a completely different pair than everyone recommends.

True Dibby - all ears are different. &

All 'brands' have varying qualities of products from awful upwards!

However - I've never been anywhere that allows auditioning of in ear phones, due to the earwax liability!

Aye, cans you can audition in almost every John Lewis ... and then find them half the price online. Good for a side-by-side comparison of the same music track, earbuds are a little trickier, better to find mates who will let you have a go on theirs.

- Take them for a spin in the car - how much noise do they block in the buffeting of a Westie?

- Go for a run, how much cable rub noise do you get, do they fall out when you get sweaty?

Amazon black Friday deals have had some corking deals on (I know price shouldn't come into it and buying off the internet means you'll not be able to test them out) £40 earbuds being reduced to £12 at the moment. Keep an eye out, their deals tend to repeat themselves on Amazon
