Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted October 31, 2014 Share Posted October 31, 2014 Possibly, but I know it's something Fraser (BLiNK) warned someone to check when they were starting a rebuild on a flood damaged car. FWIW, they found the interiors of their chassis tubes in reasonable state, but did go on to treat them anyway, after having had the whole chassis Zinc coated and powder coated. Unusually, thanks to the specialist and distinctive nature of the cars, you'll see a few genuine reports from the owners pre-insurance write off, too. We had one on here only recently concerning a Caterham, interestingly you can follow the original saga of how there was significant damage etc over on Blatchat. This didn't tally with the original version of the ad, which was then edited after the ex owner contacted the dealer. No doubt it was an over sight with the ad copy. tisme Posted November 3, 2014 Share Posted November 3, 2014 Not being too familiar with the various Insurance "write off" categories (touch wood, never been there !) - then if they're Cat C or Cat D , what extra costs would be involved to get them back to "clear" or even insurable? (No, I don't want to buy one, just interested). I've read an explanation of the categories http://www.whatcar.com/car-advice/running/what-is-cat-d-/3487412 but it doesn't give you much idea on the implications. SteveD Posted November 3, 2014 Share Posted November 3, 2014 you can't get them off the register no matter what people say ,once recorded they are recorded , they are all insurable ,you dont even have to declare it to the insureres but i would advise it , as they will use any reason to wriggle out of a claim these days if you have a bump catc have to have a vic check but that is being done away with next year to a certain extent ,and any mot test station will be able to do the check it does effect the value but in some cases you are buying a better car with westfield lotus caterham etc as some have full rebuilds to repair them or get em back on the road ,but that all depends who has done the repair obviously Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
