Hidden costs

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm carefully budgeting for my mega S2000 purchase and would like any info on hidden costs that I should expect. I'm buying the complete kit from westfield, but sourcing my own engine and gearbox. ie. SVA test, vital tools etc.

Thanks in advance!

Glyn

Seriously, the biggest hidden cost for me was "premature upgraditis" - whenever I try to source a component on my list, I inevitably find something that is just a bit better and a bit more expensive. So budget for decent bits from the off and you'l not be far out!

Tools - I bought a decent 3hp compressor, an engine hoist, a trolley jack, a full tool chest and drawers, air riveter (total godsend) and was lucky to get a set of build stands from a club member.

Not sure about anything specific to an S2000, but I'm sure someone will be along shortly ;)

One of my biggest hidden costs was fluids. You'd be supprised how all the specialist oils etc for gearbox, diff, engine, coolant and brake fluid add up to a lot of money.

When it comes to Honda specific fluids, gaskets and bits and bobs to prep the engine and 'box, sign up to the S2Ki forum for S2000's and make contact with Simon at Hendy Performance, a great source of discount OEM Honda bits.

Make sure you understand what is included in the full kit! For instance, I'd be quite surprised if many/anybody took the standard seats supplied. An S2000 built from only the complete kit would be quite a stripped down looking beast!

Its also very easy to find you've spent in the hundreds on additional convoluted tube for the loom and plumbing, extra p clips, brake pipe clips, cable tie saddles etc.

Thank you Dave.

I've already added sport turbo seats, full trim, windscreen, digi dash, wide track wishbones, LSD, upgraded calipers.

Good contact for honda parts too.

Cheers

When I did a complete change of fluids, I used http://www.opieoils.co.uk/  Good prices and free delivery for £100 worth, your order will come to at least that.

As a bonus and unlike other "euro car parts" suppliers, they don't (or didn't) send their stuff by UPS, so you haven't got to worry about being at home to take delivery.

Good by me, because I'm at work all day and one of my bosses gets his A*** in a sling if anything other than clothes, shoes and handbags get delivered to work.

When my new tyres turned up, he was not pleased, told me to "get rid of them" and then make up the time later,  I offered to try them on and prance about the office seeking as much attention as possible for half an hour....... But apparently this was "sexist" :(
