Results for Llys y Fran have now been posted thanks to the kind co-operation of "FilFan" (Phil) who has offered to help get the results up and ready quicker for you guys.

A bit of a joint effort so I can't take the full credit anymore lol :d

Great job Tigger - well ahead of the blog  :d (Terry needs to get out more often and do a few more hills)

Too many 102s for my liking  :( and ACW appears to be making a bit of a habit of it

What happened to Mark Schlanker?

Too many 102s

I thought that as well and it seems that all class TTs were easily achievable which is a bit strange

If you exclude practice 1 as a sighting run then the drivers seemed to beat the records with all their remaining 3 runs!!!!!!!!

Good weather this year - unusual for westest Wales?

In addition Llys-y-Fran has been off the calendar for a number of years - last time in was 2009 and nobody attended, so results existed up to 2008.  We all know what has been happening to the records since then - Westfields have just got quicker and quicker.

I wonder if the times were set when it was wet ( before we had the 1.6e rule)

No it was dry

The F time was mine from 2008, 1st year on 1B tyres (Toyo 888) and with a std 180BHP XE engine,,

The class E time would have been Andy Rushworth, not exactly a slouch was he :)

As Paul says its just down to car and driver development / experience ;)

Cheers

Barry

Bear in mind new class records for the hill were set I think we were all pushing on somewhat. oddly the E target was harder than the F target.

Marks car developed a rattle that could be bottom endy, so he ignored my advice of "whats the worst that could happen" and played safe.

I agree with ACW

Tim N's ftd was 1-5 sec faster than the record set by Andy Dunbar in the class above ( effectively class H) and was a new Class hill record.

Ade set a new class 2B record as well

and we all know the Andy Rush's times were always quick

I am sure the perfect conditions helped ,but that is the nature of our sport

Has the track been resurfaced in the last couple of years?

No

only a repair section after bridge , can be seen on vids

There were only a few of us there so not a big cross section to compere times

Hopefully the vids will encourage a few more to go next year and battle the cateringvans

Its a great venue ( when dry)

Too many 102,s ??   Interesting argument.

From the replies those that went and achieved a good score are obviously not complaining, but I can see both sides of the argument here.

I won't be doing 10 events this year either so I've no axe to grind so no class positions to lose etc.

Yes the conditions were clearly favourable and you only have to watch Stu Hills Video to see how much people were pushing on as ACW points out, and whatever the weather conditions, for Tim to achieve an FTD is a fantastic achievement.

One the other hand yes, Andy Rushworth's time in G was a good time and Andy was quick , but in all classes as Paul says things have moved on considerably in the speed series in car development and arguably drivers too.

However even with favourable conditions, for everyone to be achieving class records by P2 its arguable that the times were too soft.

Perhaps in future there is an argument to say that if a venue hasn't been visited for 3 years or more then it should be treated as if it was a new venue and therefore a 1.6e.

Discuss !!

As Adrian has mentioned sounded like my rattle was bottom end but on removing the sump i found no metal in the oil and the bearings were all good but on checking the cam belt seemed a bit loose so I think the tensioner may have failed! I have re-timed the cams and will check it runs tomorrow. Turns over by hand OK but then it did before, so hoping not too much damage.

Really disappointed that I had to pull out, there were a few advising to carry on including a certain 2x British Rally Champion. My first time at this event and thoroughly enjoyed it, even if it was a bit short. Definitely going back next year, a great venue.

Well, managed to fix it :d , but not sure how. I started it but the rattling was still there, so took all the plugs out, the exhaust manifold off and turned over on the key to see if I could hear any metal-on-metal - sounded ok, so probably a worn or sticking follower.

I was just contemplating taking the cams out to inspect the followers when I thought I'd put it back together and try it once more and guess what no noise! Strange but at least it was an easy fix - so will be back out next weekend at MIRA. :):t-up:
