Driving from MOT

Hi All,

My car's in a garage who are preping it for it's MOT and to do the suspension set up. However they are dragging their heals and I may take the car back before it's had it's MOT.

My point is. Is it legal to drive it back from the garage without having gone through the test? I know I can drive to and from garage for the test but if it's being done through a third party is that different?

Cheers

What about having a pre-booked test elsewhere?

Hmm not sure but you should be ok. You are allowed to drive to and from any preparation for an mot or iva provided it's insured and booked.

I checked this out as I had a pre mot type test before iva and after my exhaust failed iva on sound I legally drove it to and from exhaust specialist for corrective action equally if your car fails mot you can drive it to a pre booked session with repairer to get it fixed. Otherwise you couldn't have specialist mot centres. I phoned vosa and the police on this to ensure it was right. They confirmed provided it's booked and insured it's legal.

Hope that helps

Thanks Guys,

The garage e-mailed today to say he's been on holiay for a couple of weeks, so it's not a problem any more. :)  I was getting worried as he was not answering texts or e-mails and was thinking of pulling it out (the car, from the garage, that is  ).

I thought it would be illegal to drive back (as SteveD said) as it would not have been through a test so I wanted to check. Pre-booking an MOT in the area could have been a way around it but it would fail and need a retest.

Cheers
