Darrell O'Neill
I've just found a GoPro hero 3+ silver for £187 which seems a superb price, but my question is what else will I need? Can anyone give me links etc to the right type of mount for a Rollbar and the correct microphone ? I'd love the black version but I just cannot justify the extra £100+ Here http://www.topendelectronic.co.uk/gopro-hero3-silver-edition-camera-s.html?gclid=CMHF28jP470CFTHItAodqDQAsA
Onliest Smeg David
Have a search for AdanR's Go Pro threads. Lots of useful info in them. He's a trader on here, and sells them. Probably worth getting in touch.
Paulm3
I think I just got one on the same deal! (missis bought it me for bday) I've just ordered a new GoPro genuine roll bar clamp off ebay for £16, and you need a decent micro SD card, I went for the Lexar 600x 32bg x2. as seems people have problems with 64gb cards and them dying. Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
GoPro's own roll bar clamps can be a bit fragile, if you want something a bit more robust, and easier to quickly fit/move Manfrotto do some excellent clamps, which with a GoPro adaptor are very strong and sturdy. It's not cheap, but it's the best I've found, clicky (Not sure if Adam can get them?). I use Manfrotto tripods and monopods for my still cameras too, they're really good quality with out going insane cost wise. Not sure what the current hot recommendation is for mic's, I use an Audio Technica Lavalier self powered mic as recommended by a lot of the pros back when I bought my Hero 2. stu999
You will also need to buy a mic adapter lead for the Hero 3. Do not be tempted to buy off eBay, I'll save you the hassle, they don't work! The GoPro mini USB actually has ten contacts instead of the most common five, which makes it virtually unique. The cheapest I found the the adapter lead when I purchased was Wiggle, the bike and outdoor gear suppliers...
melt
For the Manfrotto bar clamp, got mine here clicky Will also need the related product (light stud). hth Mel
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
And a GoPro tripod adaptor. Mind you, you can use the clamp for regular cameras too. I've had the SLR on it.
AdamR
Couple of quick things - sorry if this comes across as 'direct' but I'm in a hurry! The Top End Electronic site... Delivery is also £20 and the website is illegal for e-commerce (doesn't list a trading address). I would personally be slightly dubious about sending a bank transfer as payment (this is the only option available at checkout) to a site I'd never heard of, too. That's not to say you wouldn't get a camera for a cheap price, but given the shipping cost I doubt it's coming from inside the UK and this makes it a grey import as well. Each camera has a unique serial number so GoPro can track where each camera travels to and from - during the firmware update process you need to enter this serial number, and they won't offer product support to cameras not purchased through the correct channels. Unfortunately I don't have the Manfrotto stuff in, but from what I hear that clamp is a great bit of kit (note you'd need a GoPro tripod adaptor as well to use it). As Stu says, you'll need the 'official' GoPro lead for a mic unfortunately (I tried the eBay ones as well!) - I do them cheaper than Wiggle with the WSCC discount (£18.60). I use a cheapy £10 non-powered eBay mic with mine (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UltraDisk-Pro-Omnidirectional-Car-Kit-microphone-3-5mm-3-metre-U-4036-sun-visor-/330955427676?ssPageName=ADME%3AL%3AOU%3AGB%3A3160&ViewItem=&item=330955427676&nma=true&si=QDgwFSZkvZJg2mTQ0n07sOLF95g%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557) and very happy with sound quality (mic is under the dash):
stu999
They have gone up again then Adam, it was a tenner with free delivery when I bought it - everywhere else was at least £20...
AdamR
Wow, that is cheap... fair play. Wish I'd have known, I'd have stocked up at that price
stu999
That's what I thought when I was researching - perhaps I should have bought a load of them? Doh! Another opportunity missed!
Deako
Be careful with the gopro rollbar mount. It won't fit a playskool roll bar, so if you have anything wider than a large cycle tube it's pretty useless. I purchased this which works well: Veho VCC-025-LPM MUVI Extra Large Pole/Bar Mount for Roll Cages/Masts/Handlebars by Veho http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00CBSDS2G/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_n8Qttb1YRQNFC Comes with GoPro compatible mount. I bucked the trend and purchased a Garmin VIRB Elite though, as I wanted the data overlays without relying on 2 pieces of hardware to capture video and gpx data, then merging it. This is the remote mic I went for: Speedlink Spes Clip-On Microphone by Speedlink http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004YEWC22/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_b.Qttb0Y096TY
