Caught Speeding

Nah, not me, just an idle thought, but never wanted to find out;

If you are travelling on a road at a constant illegal speed and trigger more than one camera on this road, are you deemed to have broken the law once or as many times as you trigger a camera?

Cheers

Ian

I read a newspaper report - a few years ago, mind - about a person who had taken his souped-up Capri (or whatever) out for the cruise along Southend sea front. He triggered 4 speed cameras on one run and was fined/got points for each occasion so with 12 points received an automatic ban. His appeal failed so the ban and fines stood.

I too seem to remember that one

I seem in consistent to police stop action shows where the car speeds slows down speeds gets stopped then just gets done once!!!!!!

It used to be that speeding offences at the same time/same journey were counted as one. I know as I was charge for 4 offences driving from the Ruckholt Road bridge to the 1st exit on the motorway going to Blackwell. Magistrate was very nice about and explained that I shouldn't waory too much as they only counted as one endorsement (before points, shows how old I am)

I am always careful when around the gantry camera's. The M1 section from 28 down worries me, especially when not showing any limit, but I understand the cameras are turned off then  ???  M42 is a big stick to the limit zone for me. I guess the M25 is but rarely go on it.

If anyone wants to own up to having been caught by the gantry cameras that would be really useful information for the rest of us. Do you get one fine or as many as the number of camera's you have set off ?

Nick, I got 4 fines but only 1 endorsement. However this was in the 70's so it may have changed.

I think the date of endorsements has changed as there was an anomaly. At one time the date was that of conviction. I once lost my license for 42 days on totting up but the 1st and last offence were more than 3 years apart. The first case had taken longer to get to court than the last. Then it changed to date of offence to make it fair.

I'm sure there was an instance of someone getting nabbed multiple times on the same journey on the M4 a while back, and the offences were added together for a ban. I'm sure he then appealed, citing the logic that it was actually the same offence that he had been caught 4 (or whatever number) times for, rather than separate offences, and won...?

I got stung on the M42 recently

Must have set multiple cameras off because i drove straight through them all but only one ticket.

Its infuriating at 4.30am when everyones doing 20mph on the inside lane all the way to the M40 and not a cone or worker in sight

They should be accountable for removing restrictions when any end

The other maddener is a different speed on each gantry - why not set a constant reduced maximum for that stretch instead of 30-50-60-40-60

You then spend all your time looking up,risking hitting someone up the A***

And relax

More frustrating / confusing is when signs on the SAME gantry indicate different speeds (something I've seen around Birmingham).

Never seen that, although I have had them change as I have gone under them.

Presumably the camera last very slightly when the limits are rolled down.
