Sorry for delay in pics but here it is!

So I started looking for a car circa £5K after selling my Vw campervan and then I started to find the cars I liked were a bit more than that - i.e this was advertised for £7600!!

After travelling about a bit trying cars and looking constantly and having a chat with Steve the Surrey AO I popped in to literally to have a look at this as it was local to my work - I had no intention of buying it - I thought it was out of my budget and over priced!

I negotiated a great price for an 06 car (she has a poppy carb problem) and now this is MY 2005 chassis/2006 registered 2.0ltr Pinto engined SDV Westy....

She has minor problems (it's called Elly being but one..) due I think to having a good build but 2 owners who have done nowt all to it except drive it. The worst was the seats being bolted down due to being snapped frames (see separate thread) which will be sorted soon with the arrival of JK seats and the clutch cable is just hanging in there and an awful gearbox linkage which I'm hoping my new Westfield quickshift, 9 washers and a thread lock will cure and the exhaust just hanging there - see bottom pic!!

Peet, your popping carbs may just be a case of setting them up properly. See if one of the Surrey members can have a look for you.

A belated welcome Peet :t-up:

Can't explain why but I've always had a fondness for the way a Classic bodied westy looks with it's hood up

Thanks for comments chaps.

Yes seats and gears are highly over rated Norman!

I have an RAC roll bar to fit and the frame extenders on back order, considering an aeroscreen for summer possibly.

I have been running around a bit with the roof on and no doors getting drenched and smiling lots.

I love the colour too but unsure about the black nose may paint it to match. Sticking with 2.0l pinto for a few years then may upgrade...

Looks great and the right time of year to get in the garage sorting out

Lossing weight off the car can be cheap to start with carpets out seats your changing, aeroscreen, heater, wiper motor if you don't mind wearing a helmet

The Rollbar your fitting is a good idea but the hood doesn't fit after

Have fun and welcome

He's getting the extender kit for the hood frame that enables use with  an RAC roll bar. Mind you, you might find some of the press stud locations a bit on the tight side. But see how you go, there's always a solution!

  • 10 months later...

Nearly a year after buying it I'm only now actually really really starting to enjoy my car!

It didn't help timewise I injured myself doing the London Marathon meaning I was unable to do a thing to it myself for 3 months+ and even driving it is still uncomfortable but with the help of my brother in law and Steve Lawson the Surrey AO it's finally running sweetly and enjoyably!!

Typically I SORNed it for August as one huge thing that has been ALL the Westys fault was I desperately now wanted a dry warm large garage so we have moved house - yep that is huge upgradeitis!! We hadn't moved in 12 years but the Westy persuaded me so it has been great for us even in another way!

It has changed since I first got it as Westys do tend to evolve but this about it for this Westy from me, no re-engining etc, maybe a few bits and pieces but I'll be saving for the next 2 years or so to buy another one that has more modern engine either a bike engined or fuel injected honda etc, I like this car as it is, simple even if not the most refined.

I'm learning a lot from it and now it's near enough at the standard being I want it to be I'm hoping to get commuting, touring, track days and def a sprint from it before I move on in a few years time!!
