This is the story of a 1990 Westfield SE7 sports car. Now I don’t know too much about it other than what I can see on my drive or the few items of paperwork that came with it. This therefore is a voyage of discovery, the best kind.

What I do know though is what to expect, you see way back in 1989 a friend and I built one, an SEi to be precise. Apart from having a live rear axle (ours was an independent rear end) this new car is almost identical.

The log book tells me that it was registered in June 1990 and as far as I know I’m the third owner. The original builder sold it to my friend’s brother-in-law after a few years. I remember hearing that Michael had bought it but then the car didn’t get mentioned for a good few years. Sadly Michael passed away and the car was garaged. Come forward to last year and my friend asked if I could help sell the car – of course if we could gather some details and photograph it then it wouldn’t take long to sell.

Having forgotten all about it during the intervening months and with other projects on the go imagine my surprise when my friend sent me a message offering the car at a price that would have been rude to turn down. So, having arranged transport my ten year old son and I were very exited to see the car arrive.

Getting it out into the daylight revealed the large amount of dust and general grime and a huge amount of spider debris inside! Overall though it looks to be in reasonable condition after a long lay up. Fortunately the garage that it was stored in was dry with good air circulation meaning only a little surface rust here and there.

Well, looks like the last tax disc it will ever display as I don’t think I’ll get it on the road before the end of September when they will no longer be issued.

The interior is complete, just dusty. Mind you, once I’ve cleaned it I’ll need to work out what all those switches are connected to!
