IVA passed

It would seem i have been a little remiss in keeping this blog up to date - but all things come to an end. So ends this blog Long story short I passed IVA on Friday 20th June Admittedly it was 2nd attempt, but not dissapointed - I trailered the car for the first appointment on Tuesday and as it passed all the safety bits i.e brakes, steering, build quality etc the opportunity to drive it up on Friday was too good to miss. Took the car up to Carlisle VOSA and was met by a very friendly team -

Part 9 - Summer of little activity

Well hello - been a while and you may well be asking 'Where's your latest update what have you been doing all summer?' and that would be an excellent question. Well apart from starting a new job, painting the extterior to the house, catchiing up on odd DIY jobs there is nothing more depressing than a half built car and looking out at beautiful summer driving days lost. With the best will in the world this build was never going to be done before Spring 2014 so I don't feel too bad and some progr

Part 8 - Still progressing

Hi all, Been a little busy of late and not been giving much attention to this build thread. Have accomplished several smaill jobs around the engine bay - air box in place with radiator and cooling pipes installed. Not opted for cooling reroute at this time, but may revisit once I have the majority of the build done and through IVA process. Probably going for engine rebuild over next winter so will do it then. Shortened Prop shaft back from Bailie Morris and fitted and so now I have turned my a

Milestone acheived

What do you do on a wet Bank Holiday Monday? Well I installed engine & g/box Looks a treat. Near side engine mount did not line up, but was expecting that as this has been highlighted in blogs previously. Also fitted the steering column - modified centre section looks about 20mm short (again as previously pointed out), but will wait until I have the scuttle in place to see what impact it has. Need to get prop modified - any recommendations? TC

You can't have too much orange!

Hi All. It is a matter of taste, but as I decided not to go for a full rebuild of the engine I thought I might as well dress it up a bit. So having 2 weeks holiday planned I took some bits down to the local powder coater and specified ORANGE. Results as in the above picture - not too bad, but as I say a matter of taste. New 3 piece clutch fitted and gearbox ready to be mated and then in it goes - simples Other work completed - rebuilt and fitted front calipers, new drilled and grooved discs a

Part 5 - Bits everywhere!

No updates of late, but having now picked up my completion kit there'll be no holding me back - LOL. Boxes of unidentified bits all over the place. Still no manifold but am assured that its not far away.......... I now have a pile of wire in a box stripped back from the loom - hopefully I have only removed the bits I definitely don't need - but there is still an awful lot of wire in the MX5 loom. Loom now draped over the car- still not looking forward to this bit. Anybody got a decent wiring d

Part 4 - Not quite standing still....

Well hello. Been a while since my last update, not been too idle and have progressed a little. Notably the rear diff is now in situ in its reaplendant orange livery and front & rear uprights and hubs assembled. I managed to find a friendly mechanic to tease(!) out the rear bearings and replace with new - rear uprights now in place. On assembly I did find the treaded bar which passes through the lower wishbone bushes to be a very tight fit - need to review this as this will need to come out

Part 3 - Brass Monkeys!

Been a little while since my last update - some progress made, slightly beaten by the cold weather, but persevered All brake and fuel pipes now installed - routed the two fuel pipes either side of the Clutch master cylinder to give me plenty of clearance for the gearbox/clutch slave cylinder. http://s1358.beta.photobucket.com/user/scraggj/media/IMG_0144_zps73afa94e.jpg.html?sort=3&o=3 Getting heavy to turn the chassis - the wife is starting to complain. Perhaps I should offer some help!

2 steps forward one back

Firstly thanks for all the welcome messges - hopefully will get along to a local meet soon enough. Sunday is working out to be my Westfield day and some progress made today. Got the brake lines in front and rear which proved taxing for my feeble brain manipulating the pipe bender in 3 dimensions, but did it without sacrificing any of the tubes. Next need to turn the chassis for the front to rear brake line and fuel lines. After reading Dommos blog I noticed that the panel for the drivers foot

Hello

Just a quick hello and introduction and as I got this membership as an Xmas gift, thought I might as well post a blog! Live up here in Leyland, Lancashire so hopefully will be getting along to some local meetings. I recently (finally, some may say) bit the bullet and purchased the Mazda SDV version of the Westfield. Been through a couple of previous mid life crisis moments with motor bikes, but now somehow suddenly started to feel mortal, so they have gone and am reverting to 4 wheels. Bought
